It looks to me like it's a recent Debian issue.  I've yet to see that 
problem on the other distros I use.  (Gentoo and Fedora primarily). 
Sounds like an issue particular issue with Debian based distros.

Even in those posts, it's asked if adding hostname is 'standard' being 
tacked onto 127.0.0.1.

I still stand by my original posts.  I fail to see the point (barring 
something Debian related) in doing things this way, but if that's what 
the Ubuntu folks want to do, then have fun with it.

As I said before, back in the day doing this was considered taboo.  I 
still think having the hostname like that is unnecessary and can create 
no end of confusion for n00bs having network trouble.  But that's just me.
