Good point & agreed. However, if his gnome-terminal has stopped working
at some point it's probably a good idea to go ahead and reinstall it.
So, using Peter's excellent advise I'll make an addition :-)
Alt-F2 then enter: xterm
With xterm running:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install --reinstall gnome-terminal
And to troubleshoot gnome-terminal before reinstalling; try running
gnome-terminal from xterm:
gnome-terminal
that should give some indication as to why it gnome-terminal is not
starting.
