hello, i have tried to install ubuntu in a new lap compaq presario
CQ50-103LA

first i tried to install ubuntu 8.04 and it send an erro, so i started with
F6 and change at the of the line to words for this "all_generic_ide" and it
started ok

while installing in graphic mode showed an error that said
 Code:

"the installer encountered an error copying files to hard disk:

[errno 5] input output error: '/rofs/usr/lib/sane/lipsane-epson2.la'

this particular error is often duw to a faulty CD/DVD disk drive. It
may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, or
to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from
electronics suppliers)"

so, i downloaded ubuntu-8.04.1-alternate-i386 and i started to install again
and in "installing base system" show next error

 Code:

"no installing kernel was found in the APT sources

you may try to continue without kernel, an manually install your won
kernel later. This is only recommended for experts, otherwise you will
likely end up with a machine that doesn't boot

continue without installin kernel?

<go back> <yes>	<no>"

so, i downloaded intrepid-alternate-i386 Alfa 5 and same error
 Code:

"no installing kernel was found in the APT sources

you may try to continue without kernel, an manually install your won
kernel later. This is only recommended for experts, otherwise you will
likely end up with a machine that doesn't boot

continue without installin kernel?

<go back> <yes>	<no>"

what can i do to install ubuntu?

any advice? is my new laop no compatible with ubuntu?

other linux based in debian?

thanks you all
