I do not know the answer to your question, but I can say that CDMA is
alive and struggling here in China too, so you can add a further
1,400,000,000 potential responders to your expectations.

Of course, since a lot of the Ubuntu forums and blogs (but not, as you
see, this one) are blocked here, it may not help much.
