java web start and sound

I'm trying to use a java app that gets started with java webstart.  I
have java-6-sun-1.6.0.06 installed.

When the app starts, I get an error that there is a problem with the
sound device. In the help, one of the possibilities is something else
already has a lock on the device.

I found some info on google, but only one regarding sound it didn't
work. 

Has anyone else run into this problem?  Any ideas what I could try?
