Well, welcome to the linux community. I'm glad to see you're trying out
Ubuntu in a real world situation. But you still haven't clarified
what it is you are looking for exactly.
If there are things in Windows your kids are using, can you tell me what
apps they are? Either there will be an Open Source equivalent /or/ the
apps will (possibly) run in Wine.
I have 13 systems at my house, each of my 4 daughters has a laptop
running linux (they /can/ dual boot to Windows when they need to), and
my wife is a teacher. I'm sure there are some things available for your
kids' needs, once I know what those needs are.
