Right after bootup in Linux, look at the output of "dmesg" to find out 
what device to which the CD-ROM drive was attached.

Also, you'll find virtual device nodes in /dev. List "/dev/s[cd]*"; some 
of those will be hard drives, but at least one should be your CD-ROM drive.
