When I need to copy root files etc., I do find 'gksu nautilus' helpful -
but instead of drag n' drop I use right-click copy etc.
As for file mangagers, you might want to check out gnome-commander:
http://www.nongnu.org/gcmd/
It provides for added control & filters, plus allows for dual window
panes similar to Dolphin. gcmd 1.2.5-1 is available in universe & seems
to be fairly stable. But I am currently using 1.2.7 which is available here:
