Oh, it will ask for your password alright... remember if you've used
sudo, gksu, etc., shortly beforehand that you won't get asked your
password again for another 15 minutes. Wait for awhile & try it again
and I'm sure it will prompt you. See:

After that time, you will need to enter your password again."

You can modify the time via /etc/sudoers. See man sudoers
(timestamp_timeout & passwd_timeout):
