What about the horrible behaviour of the "Applications" settings? You have
to edit the mimeTypes.rdf file by hand, and there's no guarantee the
changes will stick.
I apt-get'ed a new program yesterday, then tried to open the respective type
of file from Firefox. It, surprisingly, suggested the correct application
in the "open with" dialog. Great! I selected the app, and the file opened
perfectly. I closed it and tried again, and Firefox told me the
application didn't exist! - "edit your preferences". But you _can't_ edit
your preferences! So I closed FF, edited the rdf file - fixing a blank
application filename - and tried again. Again, it worked once, and never
again.
Hand editing the rdf file, I've been able to make FF3 open mailto: links via
gmail (a process so slow, you'll forget what you were going to send them),
but never Kmail.
