Adding a second monitor seems to be a pretty good start, but any changes in
System Settings seem to require you to keep all fingers and toes crossed.

With sound, it's the drivers.  For some hardware, sound just seems terribly
fragile.  No problems at all with my current HP, but on and off pretty well
every kernel upgrade with the previous two Dells.
