Waiting may be all in vain, however.  I did just install a Brother MFC-490CW but didn't have trouble accessing CUPS server, so can't help there. AFA installing the printer, I just followed the instructions Brother had on their site for Linux 64 bit printer setup at:

(substitute your model no.)

If non of the above help to get you started then this should do the trick as Brother has the greatest Linux support ever and replies promptly:


Just tell them exactly what the problem your having is and I'll bet they will reply with just what you need to do.
Hope this helps. I followed the pre-install procedure then loaded the driver(s) and everything just worked. My biggest concern was deciding just what pre-installs I needed to do for my model and ended up doing them all for Ubuntu(didn't hurt) and is also what I wrote Brother about.
