WTF? Did you try it from your Gutsy install, or did you try it from the
running system that is installed in sda5 and sda6?? If the latter, OF
COURSE that does not work since AFAIK the partitions need to be
unmounted for resizing, and you are running your OS from them, so you
can't.

Several people told you as much. That was the whole point why everyone's
advice contained booting from a live CD.

Also, did you read the full manual?
