I like fdisk too. but it will not do what I need. The problem with
parted is this:

                     resize partition start end
resize the filesystem on partition to start at
start and
                     end at end megabytes

I got the proper number of megabytes for /dev/sda4 and then used resize
and it displayed the error that the end was out-side the hard drive.
This is just not the case. The hard drive has about 100 GB of free space.

And /dev/sda4 is a Extended partition that fdisk failed to do what I
asked it to do. I recall exactly what I did. When making this partition
I allowed it to use the entire remaining 100 GB of space. I didn't
expect it to change. But in the same setup I made the /dev/sda5 and 6
and saved the setup. Alas I didn't look because in saving the setup
fdisk changed /dev/sda4 to include only /dev/sda5 and 6.

There was no way for me to make that exact cut-off at the end of /dev/sda6.

It might be a problem with big hard drives. And no I have not fined a
bug report but will after some additional testing.
