No-op this is after purging xserver-xorg-video-intel:
root at frank-desktop:/home/frank# aptitude search xserver-xorg-video-intel
c xserver-xorg-video-intel - X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx
display
p xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg - X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx
display
root at frank-desktop:/home/frank# aptitude install xserver-xorg-video-intel

So purging the driver solved nothing because Synaptic and aptitude still
can't install it. Have to go back to DL it.
Cheers
