Newby help: Changing to Thunderbird instead of Eveloution

I was using Xubuntu before I had my computer rebuilt. I have two new
books on Ubuntu for guides.

I will use Evolution now that I found how to hide the Switcher buttons
so it looks more like Thunderbird. I also installed Pan Newsreader since
either Evolution doesn't read newsgroups or I couldn't figure out how to
set it up.
