Slow booting with linux-image-2.6.24-21-server

I have a new computer with Intel chipset, quad-core cpu and 4G Ram on
which I installed the Desktop version of Hardy.

The generic kernel does not utilize all the ram so I have tried the
server kernel and it was unusable (details to follow) and the same
happened with a pae-enabled compiled by me using the generic kernel's
configuration as basis adding bigmem and pae-capabilities.

The following table shows the times (I suppose it is in seconds -
taken from `dmesg`) it took each kernel to boot:

Generic Server Custom-pae

70.557644 1211.799712 915.118205

When looking at the kernel messages the following significant moments
(delays) in the boot process stand out in case of the pae-kernel:

Should I file a bug report or does someone have an easy explanation
for this?
