A few questions/points:
1. Why did you uninstall the Ubuntu OOo (U)OOo 2.4.1 version? This is no
longer necessary with the new standard OOo 3.0.
2. Did you actually install OOo 3.0? If so, you will be able to test by
using a terminal and:
/opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice
If that works, go to step 3, if it doesn't stop here and post back.
3. If you've actually removed all of the Ubuntu version of OOo, then you
can install the standard OOo 3.0 menus by:
cd <pathtoOOo3extractedfiles>/DEBS/desktop-integration
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
and that will give you the menus in Applications|Office. If you did not
remove (U)OOo then you will need to create a menu item - if this is the
case, again, post back & I'll provide you instructions on how to do that.
