Display Removable Media only on Desktop

Ubuntu Users,

By going to the Gnome Configuration Editor, I selected to have 
"volumes_visible" unchecked, which means that my networked drives no 
longer have icons on my desktop. That's how I prefer my desktop, to be 
clean as possible.

However, I do want *removable* drives, like USB thumb drives, portable 
MP3 players, and CDs to have an icon on the desktop.

Is it possible to make this distinction?
