Reconfiguring X.org video drivers is not possible: /etc/X11/xorg.conf is invalid.

I have found that K/Ubuntu is just flakey when it comes to detecting
monitors and remembering the screen resolution. Initially, I thought it
was a bug in 7.10 or something to do with my particular chipset (nVidia)
but I have seen the same misbehaviour in Hardy on a variety of graphics
chipsets on a variety of machines with a variety of monitors,
particularly if the machine isn't shut down cleanly (e.g. after a power
failure). The symptom is that KDM will have the wrong resolution.
Control-Alt-Backspace may or may not "fix" the problem. Even if it
doesn't "fix" the problem, KDE may or may not have the correct
resolution and Xorg may or may not detect the monitor. It's all very
annoying and mysterious.
