How to get more than 1152x864 resolution on Intel G45 video?

How do I get a higher resolution than 1152x864 with my Asus P5Q-VM
motherboard?   It has an Intel G45 chipset and the specification says
it can go up to 2048x1536 at 75Hz.  My monitor can certainly do
1600x1200 and that's the resolution I want to run.

Is it just running default generic drivers, if so how do I tell it to
run the Intel drivers?
