Apologies, that was a slight error on my part in forgetting "sudo". I'm too 
used to having used Debian, Fedora, etc for years, and once su'ed to root, 
you can do what you like. I use Kubuntu quite a bit, but am always forgetting 
to use sudo on the CLI. I find myself typing su, which then asks me for 
password, which obviously won't work on Kubuntu.

The objective of my post though was that "sudo dpkg --configure -a" doesn't 
always fix things, as per the output I posted, where the the problem was a 
bit more complex.
