You burn onto a DVD9 the same way you burn onto a DVD5.

But if the contents don't take up a whole DVD9, you're better off
using a DVD5 for that purpose. It's more complicated if you have a
DVD9 you are trying to burn onto a DVD5, because you need software to
shrink the DVD, such as DVD Shrink under Wine or k9copy on kde/linux.
