"apt-get remove" don't remove the stuff?

Good thinking, but I believe that is not it. proftpd
leaves /etc/proftpd/, /etc/init.d/proftpd, and /etc/rc?.d/S50proftpd
(and maybe others), even if you purge it right away. Looks like a
packaging bug to me.
