[Hardy] NX (NoMachine) Sound/No Sound

It's been awhile since I used the "Enable multimedia support" in NX
(http://www.nomachine.com/)... last I recall it was working just fine in
Gutsy. Anyway, today I decided to enable in Hardy (8.04.1) and found to
my surprise that not only did it not work, but as soon as the NX session
connected to the remote (Intrepid laptop), I lost all sound. I could use
the 'Test' features in System|Preferences|Sound and the applet moved
back & forth as it does when testing, but no sound. I eventually had to
reboot in order to get sound working again on my machine.
Thinking that I'd perhaps did something to mess up my settings, I tried
the same from the Intrepid laptop; again, no sound, but the laptop
didn't lose it's sound as the Hardy machine had. Odd, so I fired up
another Hardy machine (exact duplicate hardware, nearly exact duplicate
software) and tried the same: results were identical - as soon as the NX
session connected, I lost all sound on that machine & had to reboot to
get sound back.
So, I can replicate, google indicates that others have had similar
problems, NoMachine doesn't have much other than stating that they use
ESD and that the 8.x Ubuntu's use pulseaudio etc.
Anyone else experience similar? Anyone know how to troubleshoot (Dan T?).
