Ubuntu is Debian-derived, so recompiling for that distro might not even
be necessary. (But highly advisable when customers might raise their
eyebrows at you in the event of problems.)

Regarding freedom to use, look at the top of the homepage:
http://www.debian.org

A better bet than Fedora, perhaps.
