windows completely disappear when "minimize" button clicked

I am working on a machine that has Hardy Heron installed.  The problem
arises when the user clicks on the* "minimize"* button; the window doesn't
just minimize, if fails to register on the task bar on the bottom.  Any
thoughts on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
