Tomcat connecting to MySQL - Ubuntu 8.10 Server

I revisited this idea and went to /etc/init.d/tomcat6 and modifed the  
script. I found a TOMCAT_SECURITY variable that was being set to yes  
so I changed it to "no" and then all of a sudden everything worked. It  
seems like it was the security manager all along and the first time I  
tried to disable it I must have done it wrong or messed it up.
