The ifconig xxx stop comes from a solution to a Bug that Nigel read
and then tried and found it worked. He is also curious as I am as to why
it works at all and works so very well!
This is the bug Nigel found:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-utils/+bug/274995
so I suggest you start there and see if you can get enough to make you
happy.
All I can say is I was d/l another flavor of Linux onto my laptop with
Intrepid when Nigel's first email hit this list. The second one fixed
init and I for one are very happy :-)
