Sorry. I didn't continue to read the bug.
I had problems with NetworkManager (aka NetworkMangler) on both Ubuntu, and
Kubuntu 8.10. On Ubuntu I set up the static address, netmask, gateway, etc,
and got a connection to the LAN. After rebooting though, it was all gone, and
had to go through the whole process again. Kubuntu was worse. I failed to
create a connection to the LAN using networkmanager.
Then I stopped the NetworkManager service on both Ubuntu, and Kubuntu 8.10,
leaving the networking service enabled.
Then on both Ubuntu, and Kubuntu, manually editing /etc/network/interfaces,
and adding the necessary lines for the static IP addresses for both Ubuntu,
and Kubuntu, along with editing /etc/resolv.conf, and adding the nameserver
address. After that, doing a sudo ifup eth0, on both Ubuntu, and Kubuntu
worked, I had a connection to the LAN, and the Internet, and no problems
after rebooting. the connections were still there.
Just some observations, and workarounds.
Nigel.
