Convincing a school district to migrate from OS X to Ubuntu or Edubuntu

I think you should start by switching the school computers to Open
Office and Firefox, if you can.

Open office because it's much more efficient and supports the up and
coming data format standard for all platforms out of the box.  Firefox
because, well, it's Firefox.  If people are able to adapt to those apps,
then they might consider installing Ubuntu on any non Mac PC's they get
and have instant cross platform portability.  On the other hand, if they
find they can't live without Office 2008 and Safari, there's no point in
changing the OS.

Personally, I think OS X is a nice enough system that if I happened to
administer a Mac, I wouldn't remove it.  (I'm not really a free software
purist.)  OTOH, I would never be spending my own cash on an abomination
like an Imac... all the disadvantages of a notebook, none of the mobility.
