Good Ubuntu hardware?

Thanks for your kind answer, Karl.
As I am a newbie (though 71 years old) and my English is not so good, perhaps I could not make myself understood. My REAL problem has to do with INSTALLING kubuntu-8.10 in a system with dual boot provided by Lilo and two other operating systems. As long as I know, the OS kurumin7 cannot start if there is no root directory established for it.
As the kubuntu installer does not accept a [ / ] directory for kurumin at the same time that I put a[ / ]directory for kubuntu in the installing phase PREPARE PARTITIONS, I was wondering if I should put [ /boot ]as the mounting point for kurumin.
Thanks.
Josef.
