Well no help but my new lap top has an Intel everything and windows
works fine with WiFi but Intrepid will not even admit to seeing a WIfI
sytem.

I had to delete my Vista partition to get at the 140 GB It was
using. I discovered that the Gparted in the Intrepid LiveCD cannot part
a system with the new Windows file system. So I removed the entire
partition and installed Ubuntu. Right now I am installing Windows back
in from the software saved in another partition.

This re-install is really interesting and is taking the better part
of an hour to take place. I HATE Windows :-)
