Yes. You can use SSH to log in to the server from the desktop and run
commands. When you set up the server, you might have ticked the box to
install OpenSSH. If not, then look for a tutorial on how to install it, e.g.
this one:

i dont know it ive missed it or what but is there any chance of getting a

Yes, there are lots of window managers ("desktops") to choose from: Gnome,
KDE or several others listed here:

a Window Manager
Try googling for "install gnome ubuntu" or similar depending on the window
manager you want to install. The Ubuntu docs should get you most of the way.
