I've never got an upgrade right first time yet - I'm going to this
time :-) - and I guarantee that a power outage at the wrong time can
prevent booting.  It's far from trivial to fix, sometimes.  If it's only a
grub issue, you can install grub off the liveCD, but once a fix took days.
