wireless problems in 8.04

In Ubuntu version 7.1 and 6.06 there is no problem with the wireless
configuration. In Ubuntu 8.04 I can only connect to the AP if I use DHCP.
If I try to use a Static IP (necessary on my network) the wireless card (intel
proset 3945) does not find the AP.
Also I have to disable (deny) the 'keyring applet' and insert the WPA password
everytime I boot up.
In this respect earlier versions of Ubuntu were much better.
Is there a solution?
