Possible !? ;-)
The truth is that it's my first try to get an external HDD (USB)
attached !

Not only this:
I am desperately in the need to get my /home and the "Documents &
Settings" from WinXPP backed up properly and sure restorable to this
HDD !! ;-|

So I am crawling / swimming in troubled waters and hope not to create a
total loss disaster !!! ;-O

Partially, with special thanks again to the few helping me, I got onto
the right path but
still face some problems and struggles.
Unfortunately, with English not being my good tongue, I struggle here
too, sorry ;-(

Regarding your following suggestion:

OK, can do !

OK, already done up to your earlier recommendation ! ;-)

Here I have some problems already:
I am still in finding what is wrong or what I do wrong !
Will get back to this separately !!

> 4) In a console "tail -f /var/log/syslog"

OK, will do, when I am more clear with 3) !

> 5) Plug in drive and watch the console

OK, will do, when 3) & 4) are done !

OK, will also do, when 3) to 5) are proceeded and automount doesn't !!

Once again: Thanks a lot !
Cheers, svobi
