video preview icon ( Bug ? )

Is there a major bug issue, with the video preview icon (redraw)
when you opening a folder, that contains video files, and the OS,
creates a video preview icon for each file...

Running 8.04 on a quad processor with 8800 Nvida card
and 8GB of Ram. please this is awfully slow. like a P90

What can be done to fix this or speed up the process,
say by a factor of 1000x

Note:
My Video files, are stored on internal hard drive,
and a external hard drives (usb)
