I found at MS-Windows a ppd, copied it into a folder in my home-directory and removed the "Windows-end of line":
mv aplwcsb1.ppd aplwcsb1.windows.ppd
sed '/s/.$//g' aplwcsb1.windows.ppd > aplwcsb1.ppd
..then I installed with GNOME the printer, but I got:
ppd-error: value missing in line 168 Ref. pg.20, chap 3.4
The line 168 looks as usual:
PageSize ISO B0: "<< /PageSize [2835 4008] /ImagingBBox null >> setpagedevice"

So, I think this does not help, and I want to follow your second suggestion - see my following eMail.
