Ubuntu Installation Questions

Hi all, I plan to install the latest Ubuntu now I've got the CD successfully 
burnt and working. I tested the installer to see if it will talk (I'm a 
blind user so need to use Orca). This works. However, I have a question. 
When I told it to perform a "guided - resize partition", I was told that 
changes need to be made to my disk and that it may take a long time. What 
changes is the installer on about? I downloaded a podcast on how to install 
Ubuntu using Orca, and I didn't hear it tell the podcaster that changes need 
to be made to the disk. Thanks in advance for the help. I plan to install it 
some time this weekend and have a dual boot system, as I'll still need 
Windows Vista for some things surely. Anyway, thanks once again, in advance, 
for the help.
