Here is what du says:

karl at karl-desktop:~$ sudo du -h --max-depth=1 /
[sudo] password for karl:
4.7M /bin
1.3M /root
4.0K /mnt
286M /var
88K /tmp
18M /boot
16K /lost+found
0 /sys
4.0K /test
0 /proc
12M /etc
8.0K /media
164M /lib
124K /dev
6.7M /sbin
2.2G /usr
4.0K /opt
4.0K /srv
10G /f7home
4.0K /initrd
6.2G /home
19G /

This says it is less than 3 GB just like the Disk Usage Analyser. But
using df I get:

karl at karl-desktop:~$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda8 8.8G 6.4G 2.0G 76% /
varrun 474M 232K 474M 1% /var/run
varlock 474M 0 474M 0% /var/lock
udev 474M 104K 474M 1% /dev
devshm 474M 0 474M 0% /dev/shm
lrm 474M 34M 440M 8%
/lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/volatile
/dev/hda7 15G 11G 3.4G 75% /f7home
/dev/hda9 19G 6.4G 12G 37% /home

The df is more in line with what fdisk shows.
