Hi Nils
Thanks for your feedback and links !
You are correct: It's the syntax !! ;-))
Sorry, it seems my explanations are not really clear !? ;-|

@Nils: It is really possible and I have a working proof here !!! ;-D

WS222, my system with 7.10, ONLY shows the 3 Ubuntu system lines at
system boot.
If I need WinXPP to boot, I have to scroll the cursor down below the 3
Ubuntu entries
to get to the (invisible) WinXPP entry !!

WS224, my wife's system, with 8.04 LTS shows the 3 Ubuntu system lines
at system boot PLUS:

Other operating systems:
WinXP PRO SP3

It seems it has to do with Automagic !?

On both system it looks like following with the difference that the two
last lines
are present but visible ! ;-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic
Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic (recovery mode)
Ubuntu 7.10, memtest86+
Other operating systems:
M$ WinXP PRO SP3
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The colorful display of these boot selection lines is setup with
Startupmanager and
as a newbie I have the system boot and shutdown message lines fully
displaying too
to see and learn of their changing and error messages !

Well, it's not important and cosmetic only. ;-)
On the other hand I would like to have both the systems similar. ;-))
Especially on my wife's system it would be great to have WinXPP not
listed visibly to remind her to use Ubuntu now !!! ;-D

Thanks a lot for your always appreciated assistance and guidance.
Cheers, svobi
