if you successfully installed the nvidia driver and chose at the end of
the installation to have the script update xorg then all should be ok.?
If you did not choose to update xorg or their was some other problem,
then this line should work.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

then kill x (ctrl-alt-backspace) or reboot.  then log back in again, and
in a terminal type glxgears. If you get fps in the thousand range, you
have 3d acceleration.
