Getting local emails in Thunderbird

Then file a bug with Ubuntu. And no, I'm not saying this to be a
smarta$$, I really do mean file a bug. The options are available on my
standard Mozilla Thunderbird version (see the screenshot).

What you can do is save your Thunderbird profile (.thunderbird),
uninstall the Ubuntu version, and install directly from Mozilla.
Probably the easiest way to do this us to use ubuntuzilla
(http://ubuntuzilla.wiki.sourceforge.net/).

Or... upgrade to Hardy Heron Beta as that version has Unix Mailspool
(MoveMail) in it and working.
