Difference between Kubuntu and apt-get kde?

As these programs are KDE apps, they need some KDE stuff (shared
(program) libraries, KDE programs) loaded before they can start. (The
same for GNOME apps running in KDE).

kstars need about 96 MB RAM and marble 91 MB RAM on my system. If you
have a newer computer (512 MB and up) there should be no problems.
Just use top in a terminal window or something similar to see what is
happening on your system, when you start them.

Apropos: kstars and marble are 2 cool applications! I even found
"Kleinmachnow" on the map in marble :-). THX
