Ubuntu is so slow

What about your hardware? On my office PC Ubuntu is unbearable
slow---even running XUbuntu. It's a 1 GHz Pentium machine with 384
MB RAM. At home on a 1,86 GHz Core 2 Duo machine with 3 GB RAM
Ubuntu is very fast. :-)
