I can't connect to irc.ubuntu.com

Hi,

Perhaps it's a silly question but.. have you tried connecting to
other irc servers? The number one cause for my troubles with
connecting to irc servers has historically been that I had the Identd
port closed in my router (so this can actually be OS independent,
tough it could be your iptables I guess, but I'm no expert on that).

I solved my problem by enabling port trigerring so as for the 113 port
to be open when outbound communication takes place in the IRC ports
range (e.g. 6660 to 7000). You may want to check out step 5 here:
http://www.rogues-gallery.net/LinkSys-Configuration/mirc-linksys.htm

Even if your problem is not with a router but with your OS config, I
think it still could have sth to do with Identd so checking that
possibility may help solve the issue.

Regards,

Matt
