cd /tmp
rm -rf *

WARNING DO NOT USE THAT COMMAND IN ANY FOLDER YOU WANT TO KEEP.

I filled up my /tmp when reorganizing a large set of files.

also check to see if you have beagle, the space and memory hog,
installed.
It stores its files in .beagle and its a real pain many times it has
filled my /home.
Check also the cache directories under .mozilla .opera you will find
hugh numbers of files in them at times. So many that rm * will complain
of "command line too long" then you have to break it down into smaller
file subsets.
