Help about installation

ooo ,it'ssssss soooooooooooo tough way man :(
 
i tried my best, but i couldn't!
 
I have 
 
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz     and Intel Mother board    D965
 
should i install  Ubuntu 7.10 64 bit  ? 
 
please tell me !
and, i downloaded 
 
ubuntu-7.10-desktop-amd64.iso    file of 696 MB.
 
what is mean by    md5sum    . and, if i burn the cd, will it be become bootable ?
