Need to re-install the keyboard for Ubuntu 7.10

I have been using a SUN keyboard with an adapter for my PC Ubuntu (I  
also have a Solaris machine). It has behaved perfectly, just like a PC  
keyboard.
I had to re-install the ubuntu and after typing a few letters for the  
keyboard install, ubuntu assumed that this is an Armenian keyboard!
On trying the preferences >keyboard >layout facility, I could not make  
it revert to a PC like keyboard. I am hoping to avoid a complete  
re-install of ubuntu.
Can you tell me the way to reinstall the keyboard with a regular PC layout?
